Kidneys are among one of our most vital organs. They filter out any impurities, waste materials and excess substances to make sure our bodies can function properly. Interestingly, they are also extremely delicate, and the slightest damage can have a negative effect on the rest of our body. This is why it is important to keep our kidneys healthy. The best way to do this is by avoiding (or at least limiting) the following, that over time can damage your kidneys.
6. Soda
Sodas are filled with sugar, flavoring, fructose and food coloring. People who drink sodas on a regular basis are more likely to develop proteinuria—an abnormally high level of proteins in urine that’s a risk factor for end-stage kidney disease. Fructose can also damage the kidneys and can cause them to become sensitive to a protein that regulates salts. It is believed that this sensitivity can lead to kidney failure, hypertension, and other health issues. These drinks also contain phosphoric acid which can lead to the formation of kidney stones.
