Studies involving lab animals that were exposed to BPA showed that it actually affected the way genes function inside the brain. BPA is one of those “secret” ingredients food manufacturers are not required to disclose, so don’t waste your time looking for it on food labels. Although consumption of nearly all canned goods should be limited, tomatoes are a particular concern, since the acid content in them tends to liberate more BPA from the sides of the can and cause it to accumulate in the product.
