Coffee is something else that has been talked down in certain circles, mostly because it contains caffeine, but a bit of a caffeine jolt here and there can actually do your brain some good. Research suggests that the amount of caffeine found in a cup of coffee – about 80 milligrams – is just enough to improve brain function, including both short and long-term memory. Coffee may be particularly beneficial for the elderly who are at higher risk for cognitive problems.
