5. Going outside alone
Remember going out to the supermarket alone for groceries, or to the neighbors’ house for cookies? Most of us walked home from school every day without any problems. But today? Increased risk of being kidnapped and other safety issues make the idea of being outside alone almost unthinkable. In fact, it can even get you into legal trouble. For instance, a Maryland couple was taken into custody after their children, ages 6 and 10 were walking home from a nearby park. Earlier this year, a dad was arrested because he let his 8-year-old son walk home a mere mile from school. Most parents cannot imagine letting their children out of sight for even a minute nowadays.
