9. Property taxes
Depending on the location, property taxes can be a very significant expenditure. More than a few potential homeowners are unaware of all the extra money they will have to shell out when they own a home, including various types of insurance, homeowner association fees, and maintenance. In some locations, property taxes aren’t a particularly unfair burden but in other places, like the northeast, property taxes can easily be as much as $5,000 per year or more.
