7. Lighthouse keeper
This profession is not nearly extinct – it is pretty much dead already, at least in the United States. All the lighthouses in the U.S. are automated except one – the Boston Lighthouse. Automated practically means they do not need a keeper. If you ever had any dreams of keeping lighthouses for a living, you will have to head to Australia where the officials in Tasmania were recently looking for volunteers to staff a lighthouse 6 miles off the coast.
